Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms out there! I know there are many times when you feel like you are not appreciated, and one holiday is simply not enough to celebrate all the love you give and sacrifices you have made. But since there is one day out of the year specifically dedicated to mothers, I want to take some time to thank my mom for everything she has done for me. The only place I know to begin is...at the beginning.
I was the first-born in my family, and my mom always told me I was a handful when I was younger. I can't imagine that (lol), but somehow she put up with me. I had a mean streak, yet she found a way to break me of that. Then she had her hands full when my brother came along...two young children=a full-time job. I remember the little things mom did for me. I remember her reading to me all the time. I loved to read from an early age because of her. She always took time out of her day to spend with my brother and I. When I turned 7, we moved to a new house. I was a shy young girl, but my mom encouraged me to make friends, and I did. When I was in elementary school, mom always encouraged me to do my best. She would help me with my homework, and when I was old enough to write, she took the time to read my stories. Mom was there to celebrate even the smallest accomplishments in my life.
She has continued to be there for me-through middle school, high school, and college. I started high school as a sophomore at CHS. It was scary. I didn't know many people. My mom encouraged me to meet new people, and just be myself. She also told me to keep the faith. I went to Bible school right out of high school, and I couldn't have made it as long as I did without my mom's support. She was truly my anchor-then and now. Going to IU East wouldn't have been an option if my mom had not instilled in me a love for learning at a young age. I do not believe I would be where I am, and the person I am today, if it had not been for my mom. The simplest way I know how to sum up everything she has done for me is to say thank you!
Dear Mom,
Thank you always taking time for me. Thank you for encouraging me to make friends, and show myself friendly. Thank you for supporting me in all my endeavors-whether it was writing short stories when I was younger, learning to play piano, graduating high school, and going on to college. Thank you for never giving up on me, even when I was a pain in the butt. Thank you for keeping things real, and not sugarcoating anything in life. Thank you for your unconditional and selfless love for your family. Thank you for allowing me to just talk to you about life, vent when I am angry, cry, laugh, and sometimes both. Thank you for helping me stay strong when life gets tough. Thank you for praying for me. Thank you for showing me that I can reach my goals. Thank you for being the glue in our family, and for holding us together when we feel like we were coming apart. Thank you for being a godly example, both of womanhood, and motherhood. I thank God I didn't get stuck with some crazy person as my Mom ;) I am so blessed to have you in my life, and I don't know what I would do without you. I'm sorry I don't celebrate or appreciate you as much as I should. But I am truly thankful for all you do! I love you!
Happy Mothers Day,
Your Daughter
