The Search for Truth

What is truth? In Merriam-Webster's dictionary, truth consists of several definitions: 1. the real facts about something, the things that are true, 2. the quality or state of being true, 3. a statement or idea that is true or accepted as true.

It is an ongoing process, this search for truth. There are many things we might believe to be true. We find truth in people, places, or things. But trust can be broken and this causes us to doubt opinions or beliefs we held dear for so long. We begin to doubt what the truth is. So, how can we define truth? If you're not sure, let me help you out. I have recently been searching my heart and trying to let God show me His truth. Of course, I know the basics of His truth, but somehow that doesn't seem to be enough. I want to know more about God and who He is, so I can become more like Him. After all, isn't that our goal as Christians? To become more like Christ? If you have been searching for truth in your life, I want to offer you some scriptures that will help lead you to the truth. Sometimes we search in other places, but we won't find it anywhere but the Word of God. That is the Bible's purpose. It is a roadmap we can follow to point us in the right direction when we're feeling lost.

We can search for truth by searching our own hearts. Pray and ask God to show you the truth in His Word, so you can learn more about Him. Psalm 139:23 says, Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts. If we first surrender to God and allow Him to shape our thoughts, then He will begin to reveal His truth to us. It may not come easily at first. Our faith may be tested in ways we could have never imagined, but we must not waver in our search for truth. If you continue steadfastly in your search, you will find exactly what you are looking for. The Bible says in Jeremiah 29: 13, And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. The key word in this scripture is SEEK. The word seek is an action word. It is not something passive. Seeking is consistently searching for something. If you lose your keys and you are already ten minutes late for work, you aren't going to simply search for them and then give up. More than likely, your keys will be sought after. You are going to seek for them. If you are active in searching for the truth, God will honor this attitude.

Many times in life we look to the world for help and for truths that we can hold onto. We search for inspirational quotes on Pinterest. We post a TBH on Instagram seeking validation from others, wanting to be good enough. We seek love and attention from those close to us. We search for ways to be strong enough. We seek to have all the answers to the problems life throws at us. We search for knowledge so we can be at the top of our class. We search for light in the darkness, hope when we're hurting, and a friend whom we can rely on. We search for peace when there are restless nights. We search for comfort when our loved ones pass away. We are constantly searching for the abstract in our lives, and when we are searching for these things, we cannot receive the truth. We have to stop looking for truth in the wrong places and find it in God's Word. When we know God, we have the knowledge of the truth.

John 14:17-Even the spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

When you are searching for truth, you are seeking to fill a void in your life. You know there is something missing, or something lost. In reality, it is someone that is missing in your life. If you are not a follower of Jesus, then I can tell you exactly what kind of truth you should be filling up with. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jesus is the only answer to your search for truth. You can find more about Him in the Scriptures, but ultimately, when you get on your knees, you are praying to the God of all Truth. When you ask Jesus into your heart, you find the truth. JESUS IS THE ANSWER you are searching for.

John 8:32- And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

The way, the truth, and the life dwell inside of you. You have the answer.
