I'm Only Human

-Romans 8:1-There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit.

I truly despise the cliche expression that people use so often because they make a mistake: I'm only human. You're right. We are only human. What you're wrong about is that it gives us an excuse to justify our mistakes. We can choose to be content with our human nature and accept that we will experience failure, or we can try to change it by living a lifestyle devoid of 'sinning a little every day.' You can't claim to be a Christian and live by this mantra your whole life.

-Romans 6:12-Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Before you try to make the statement, "I'm only human" to justify your wrong actions, call it what is. You just sinned, and the only way to be pardoned is by taking it to a perfect God who can wash away all your sins. You simply must ask for forgiveness and repent. To repent means to avoid repeating the same sin you just asked to be forgiven of.

Sometimes our spirit is willing to do this, but our flesh is weak. Instead of sitting around and making excuses, let's make a change. This post may sound harsh from start to finish, but maybe that's because I'm hard on myself. I am constantly seeking to be better than I was the day before, because I know I make mistakes. When we stop seeking to become the best version of ourselves, then we have put our guard down.

-Matthew 26:41-Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. We understand that the flesh is weak, yet we have blurred the lines between 'human' and 'sin'. We must realize we are imperfect, but it is wrong to accept our imperfections to the point that we drift so far away from God, and become stagnant in our relationship with Him. Using the statement "I'm only human" is equivalent to your resignation to the flesh. Think about it this way: when you say that, what you are actually saying is, "I'm tired of trying to overcome my sinful nature, so I'm going to give up and forever remain in this state of imperfection."

There were men in the Bible, like David and Job, who became so close to God that he labeled them as perfect and upright, or righteous. We know that David committed some great sins, but when he turned from them and started living a life more like Christ, he began to reach a state of Christ-like perfection. Although perfection is virtually unattainable, the Bible commands us to strive toward perfection.

-Hebrews 6:1-Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.

Rather than handing in our resignation, let's focus on crucifying the old man/woman and striving to live more like Christ-more perfect, if you will, than should be HUMANLY possible. We could never do this on our own. Therefore, our human nature calls us to look toward God, where our help comes from. -Psalm 121:2-My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

Stop making excuses for being human, for making mistakes. You don't have to give in to the flesh. We were meant to be a different kind of people; we were born to stand out and be set apart from the world. It is so important for us to be vigilant as Christians, and not allow temptations to enter into our hearts and minds.

-Romans 12:2- And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We are indeed human, yet we have choices we can all make of our own free will. So next time you start to use the cliche "I'm only human," remember who died for you sins so you don't have to use that excuse. God wants us to repent of our sins. In His mercy and love, He shows us that there is a better way to live, if we will just open our eyes and our hearts to believe. He promised us that we would have eternal life, but we can't receive this professing that we are just human, and have no control over our actions. We have to own up to them, and turn from our wicked ways, so God can fulfill His promise...the promise of eternal life.

-2 Peter 3:9-The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but he is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

God does not want any of us to die and go to Hell. He knows we are sinful creatures. We were born into sin. But He does not wish for any of us to perish. It's true, we will make mistakes. There will be things in life we say or do that will cause guilt and regret. Rather than allowing the past to control us and attributing our failures to the fact that "we're only human," let us take responsibility for our actions. We can come humbly before a God who forgives. We can be free from sin, and live a life that is pleasing to God. We will still make mistakes, and we will still fail God, but we have an advocate with the Father. Whenever we mess up, we can talk to God about it. He can help us overcome when the old fleshly nature starts to rise up again.

Before you decide to give in to your humanity, pray this prayer: more of you, less of me. Make me who I'm meant to be. You're all I want. All I need. You're everything. Take it all. I surrender. Be my King. God, I choose more of you and less of me.

God chose us to be vessels that He could work through. Don't squander your vessel on yourself. Surrender to God and allow Him to work through your life. No one is perfect, but people should see more of God in your life than they see of your human nature. It's time to empty yourself, and allow God to fill up every part of your life.
